Ladies wrangled by Lady Rangers
Alva, Okla. (January 12, 2012) — The JBU women’s basketball team lost 62-48 to Northwestern Okla. State on Thursday night in Alva. With the loss, the ladies fall to 8-9 overall and 2-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Junior Anna Parish led JBU with 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Senior Chelsea Garrison and freshman Lauren Rogers added nine each.
For NOSU (7-6, 4-4 SAC), Autumn Klugh scored a game high 25 points to go with seven boards.
JBU controlled the momentum for the opening minutes of the game, but a three point bucket from Klugh at the 15:32 mark turned the tides and gave NOSU their first lead at 7-6.
Another Klugh dagger made it 17-9 with 11:45 to go in the first half, but a bucket from Garrison pulled JBU within six, 17-11 at the midway point.
JBU managed to cut the deficit to two after Rogers drained a three with 8:11 to go, but NOSU pushed it to a nine point margin with 6:18 left before closing out the half ahead eight, 33-25.
In the second period, NOSU got off to a hot start and went ahead by 14, but JBU responded and closed the gap to four, 43-39, after a layup from Rogers with 12:03 left to play. But NOSU struck again with a 9-3 run that made it a double digit game with six minutes to play.
A freethrow from JBU freshman Morgan Ankrom briefly made it a single digit game with 5:53 left, but that would be as close as it would get as the Lady Rangers extended it back to a 14 point margin before closing things out.
For the game, JBU struggled from the floor only shooting 33.3 percent (17-of-51) on the night. NOSU, meanwhile, managed to do a little better by hitting 37.3 percent (25-of-67). JBU lost the rebounding battle 39-31 and also committed 17 turnovers while forcing only 14.
Up next for the ladies is a 3 p.m. Saturday home matchup against conference foe Oklahoma Christian.
