Oklahoma City (January 7, 2012) - Despite having three players finish in double digits, the Golden Eagles lost 70-67 on Saturday afternoon to Oklahoma City. With the loss, the men fall to 12-4 overall and 4-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). OCU, meanwhile, improves to 8-4 and 5-3 in conference play.
With 13:02 left in the game, freshman Max Hopfgartner nailed a three to tie things up and bring JBU back in the game after being down 10, 34-24, at halftime. Several minutes later, a trio of buckets from seniors Adrian Miller and Andy Garcia put JBU ahead by five, 52-47, with 8:42 to go.
However, OCU responded with a 9-2 run capped off by a long trey by Charlton Jones to take a two point, 56-54, lead with 5:28 to play.
JBU managed to stay close and equalized things after a three from junior Coleson Rakestraw made it 67 a piece with 38.0 seconds to play. But a bucket by Jones with 7.0 seconds left gave OCU the two point, 69-67 advantage.
With time ticking away, JBU had a chance to tie, but Garcia had his shot blocked, and OCU’s Shane Rogers came away with the rebound before getting fouled with less than 1.0 second left. Rogers went to the foul line and made the first but missed the second, but time expired before JBU could get off a shot.
Miller led JBU with 19 points followed by Garcia and Rakestraw with 12 and 10, respectively.
For OCU, Jones tossed in 22 points and dished out nine assists. Tim Morton finished with 15, and Rogers added 14.
For the game, JBU shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53), while giving up 53.1 percent (26-of-49) to OCU. JBU won the rebounding battle 29-27, but committed 16 turnovers while forcing only 12 from OCU.
