Siloam Springs, Arkansas (November 22, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team fell 55-50 to No. 24 Rogers State (Okla.) on Tuesday night at Bill George Arena to move to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the SAC.

Sophomore Sierra Shipley had 10 points and six boards to lead JBU, while sophomore Jessica Berlin added seven.

For RSU (5-2, 1-0), Ariana Silva tossed in 18 points, and Leah Smith added 11.

JBU opened the game on a 4-0 run after buckets from Kortni Barenberg and Chelsea Garrison and managed to climb to a seven point lead, 11-4, after a trey from Berlin with 12:44 left in the half.

But RSU responded with a 17-2 run and went ahead 22-13 with 6:58 on the clock.  JBU was able to fight their way back, though, and pulled within four after a bucket from freshman Morgan Ankrom with 1:41 to play before heading into the locker room down seven, 32-25.

In the second half, JBU hung close before finally tying things up at 44 after a pair of freebies from freshman Lauren Rogers with 6:41 to play.

After trading buckets during the next few minutes, the score remained tied at 50 with the ball in RSU’s possession with 44 seconds to play.

After a timeout, RSU’s Sasha Barnes drained a big three to break the draw after a drive and kick out from Leah Smith with 21 seconds on the clock.

JBU had a chance to respond on the other end, but Berlin’s three point attempt hit the back of the rim as RSU grabbed the board and quickly kicked out to a wide open Smith for the easy lay in and victory.

For the game, JBU struggled only hitting 34% (16-47), while giving up 42% (21-50) to RSU.  Both teams were even on the glass with a slight 32-31 advantage in RSU’s favor.  JBU, however, was able to pull back in the game by forcing 21 RSU turnovers while committing only 15.

Up next, the ladies travel to Friends (Kan.) on Saturday for a 5 p.m. matchup before returning home to face Lubbock Christian (Texas) at home on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
