Siloam Springs, Arkansas (August 16, 2011) — The JBU men’s soccer team was picked fifth after receiving 67 votes in the 2011 Preseason Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll released Monday.

The Eagles finished the 2010 season with an 11-8-1 record overall and fourth place finish in the SAC after posting a 5-4-1 record in conference play.

Oklahoma Baptist and Science and Arts of Oklahoma finished first and second in last year’s Sooner Athletic Conference men’s soccer standings in a close race.  Even closer is this year’s poll, which has the teams sharing the first-place slot.

The Bison of OBU had six of 11 first-place votes and USAO was listed first (four times) or second on all 11 ballots. Both finished with 94 points in the poll. Oklahoma City got the remaining first-place vote and finished third in the rankings at 83.

Both OBU (17-4, 8-2 last season) and USAO (16-5, 7-3) reached the NAIA National Tournament.

Finishing fourth in the poll was Rogers State with 68 points, just ahead of John Brown. Southern Nazarene is sixth with 50 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian at 40, Mid-America Christian at 35, Lubbock Christian at 32, St. Gregory’s at 30 and Wayland Baptist at 12.

The JBU men kick off their season on the road at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 27 against Benedictine (Kan.).  For the complete 2011, schedule click here
