Lady Eagles Face Lady Tigers in First Round
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 10, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team will face Campbellsville (Ky.) in first round of action at the 2011 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship.
The ladies are slated to take on the Lady Tigers on Thursday, March 17 at 6:15 p.m. CST at Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn.
JBU received an at-large bid and enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed. Campbellsville, meanwhile, finished the regular season ranked as the No. 2 team in the country and received an automatic bid after winning both the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Lady Tigers are playing as a No. 1 seed.
JBU (20-11) is making its third appearance in program history in the national tournament, while Campbellsville (28-3) is making its 19th trip. This will be the first meeting between the teams.
The Lady Eagles are led in scoring and rebounding by junior post Chelsea Garrison with 11.29 points and 6.23 rebounds per game.
Campbellsville is led by reigning NAIA Division I National Player of the Year, Whitney Ballinger, who leads the nation with 23.39 points per game and is third in the country for blocks per game (3.19) and defensive rebounds per game (8.19).
