JBU Teams Selected for Semi-Finals of Governor’s Cup

Siloam Springs, Arkansas (March 9, 2011) — John Brown University had three undergraduate teams and one graduate team selected as semi-finalists in the eleventh annual Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup: Graduate and Undergraduate Business Plan Competition.

Of the twelve undergraduate teams chosen to advance to the next level of the competition, three spots are filled with the JBU teams: Agricultural Food Systems, Craftistas and GardenCraft. One of the six graduate finalist teams, JBU’s Peas and Cues will also advance. JBU competed against teams from colleges and universities throughout the state to make it to the semi-final round.

“Participating in the Governor’s Cup provides students vital experience in entrepreneurship and the chance to meet and learn from some of the best business leaders in the state,” said Mike Kennelly, associate professor of business and team advisor.

In the next round of competition on April 7, the twelve advancing semi-finalist undergraduate teams will present their plan for twenty minutes and answer questions from judges for another fifteen minutes. Two judges’ panels will determine six finalist undergraduate teams.

On April 8, these six teams will compete against one another in the last round of oral presentations for first, second and third-place awards at The Peabody Hotel in Little Rock. The six graduate finalists will also make oral presentations on April 8 competing for first, second and third place awards at the graduate level.

Teams are competing for cash prizes, which will be awarded April 20, at the State House Convention Center in Little Rock.
