Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 25, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team loss 76-80 to No. 22 Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Thursday night in the Rip Griffin Center.

The loss drops JBU to 20-9 overall and 14-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.  LCU, meanwhile, improves to 20-7 overall and 17-4 in the SAC.

Chelsea Garrison posted 23 points and eight rebounds in the loss, while Katie Mangels finished with 15.  Sierra Shipley had a strong night off the bench finishing with 14.

For LCU, Brittany Hampton led all scorers with 24 points.  Emily Atkins added 20.

Down 16 with 5:35 to go, JBU used a late surge to pull within five with 22 seconds remaining, but time would be their enemy as LCU held on for the win.

For the game, JBU shot 46.4 percent (26-56) while giving up 54.8 percent (23-42) to LCU.  JBU dominated the boards 34-22, but their woes came in the turnover column with 21 on the night compared to 15 from LCU.

The women look to close out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Plainview, Texas to face Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m.
