Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 19, 2011) - The JBU men’s basketball team defeated 12th ranked Southern Nazarene 51-47 on Saturday afternoon in Bill George Arena.
The win lifts the men to 20-7 overall and 12-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. SNU, meanwhile, drops to 21-7 overall and 14-6 in the SAC.
Adrian Miller led the way for JBU with 13 points and six rebounds, while Ryland Allen continued his hot shooting with 12 points. EJ McWoods was also solid on the day and rounded out JBU’s double digit effort with 10.
SNU’s lone double digit finisher was Milos Milosevic with 14 points and nine rebounds. Next were Xavier Alexander and Horace McGloster with nine a piece.
After leading 13-5 early, JBU found themselves down 15-20 after a 15-2 SNU run. JBU wouldn’t be stunned, however, and battled back to take a three point lead into the locker room after Allen buried two clutch three pointers to close out the half, putting JBU ahead 25-22.
In the second half, JBU never looked behind and held an 11 point lead, their largest of the night, after a pair of free-throws from McWoods with 8:32 left to play.
SNU made a final run and managed to cut it to two, 47-49, with 46 seconds remaining after back to back buckets in the paint from Milosevic. On the next possession and with time on their side, JBU got the ball inside to Bartlett, who missed the layup with 22 seconds on the clock, but Andrius Mikutis crashed the board and tipped in the miss to put the Golden Eagles up by four, 51-47, with 14 seconds to go. SNU came down and tried to score a three, but came up short as time expired.
Both teams struggled on the night with JBU shooting 34 percent (16-of-47) compared to 31.3 percent (15-of-48) to SNU. SNU out rebounded the Golden Eagles 39-33, but the turnover margin went to JBU 9-13.
Up next, JBU plays their final home game of the year on Monday night against St. Gregory’s (Okla.) at 8 p.m. in Bill George Arena.
