Chickasha, Okla. (February 17, 2011) — The JBU men’s basketball used good free-throw shooting late to knock off Science & Arts of Okla. 75-69 on Thursday night in Chickasha.

With the win, JBU improves to 19-7 overall and 11-7 in the SAC. USAO, meanwhile, drops to 10-15 overall and 6-13 in conference play.

Andrius Mikutis had a huge night for JBU finishing with 22 points and five boards.  He was 8-of-10 for the night including a perfect 4-of-4 from long distance.  Sam Bartlett also had a strong performance with 17 points and seven rebounds, and Ryland Allen finished with 11 points.

For USAO, Sahlih Butts finished with 19 points and five rebounds.   Kenneth Durham added 14.

With 1:47 left to play, Barlett gave JBU a 67-64 lead, but Butts quickly answered on the other end to pull USAO within one.  Mikutis responded for JBU with a layup to make it 69-66, and after a pair of missed three point opportunities by Thomas Peters and Butts, JBU grabbed the rebound and USAO was forced to foul and send Coleson Rakestraw to the foul line.

Rakestraw made good on both freebies to make it 71-66 with 21 seconds left.  But USAO wouldn’t go away as Phillip Harris drilled a three pointer with 12 seconds remaining making it a two-point game.

After getting the ball in to McWoods, USAO was again forced to foul and sent McWoods to the line where he calmly buried both free-throws.  Down by four, USAO had to score quickly but missed their three point attempt.  JBU’s Thomas Galliguez grabbed the board and was fouled and sent to the foul line for two more, which he put away to help JBU seal the victory.

For the game, JBU shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the floor, while giving up 44.8 percent (26-of-58) to USAO.  JBU won the battle on the glass 39-34.

Up next, JBU returns home to face No. 12 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
