Bethany, Okla. (January 24, 2011) - The 18th ranked Lady Golden Eagles suffered their worst loss of the season at the hands of 20th ranked Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Monday night after being defeated 82-49.
The loss drops JBU to 15-5 overall and 9-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, SNU improves to 15-4 and 9-2.
Chelsea Garrison was the only JBU player to reach double-figures after finishing with 10 points and four rebounds.
On the flip side, SNU had four players reach double digit scoring led by reigning SAC Player of the Week Logan Martin’s 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
After a quick start, SNU jumped out to an early lead, but JBU managed to get rolling and keep things close. At 7:25 left in the half, Anna Parish pulled JBU to within two points, 21-23, after draining a three pointer. But from this point, JBU went ice cold and only hit two more field goals for the rest of the half. SNU, however, caught fire and sprinted out to a 17 point, 42-25, halftime lead.
The hole was too deep to climb out of in the second half, as the closest the Lady Eagles would get was at the 15:40 mark when Garrison scored to make it 47-33. SNU continued their offensive onslaught as JBU’s shooting struggles continued the rest of the way.
For the game, JBU only hit 19-of-67 (28.2%) attempts while allowing SNU to go 29-of-61 (47.5%) from the floor. SNU also cleaned the glass with a 54-29 rebound advantage.
JBU won’t have long to hang on this loss and will have a chance to redeem themselves as they return to action at home on Thursday night to face Northwestern Okla. State at 6 p.m.
