Men's basketball preview
Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 10, 2010) — JBU Men’s Basketball Games Preview: The Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week Rogers State (Okla.) coming into Bill George Arena for a Saturday afternoon tilt scheduled for 3 p.m.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week at 9-2 overall and 1-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference after falling out of the Top 25 due to losses to Oklahoma Christian (79-91) and Northwestern Okla. State (79-90).
Sophomore Coleson Rakestraw, a 6-3 guard from Siloam Springs, leads JBU in scoring with 14.1 ppg, followed by junior Adrian Miller, a 6-4 forward from Hernando, Miss., with 11.9 ppg. Junior college transfer Andy Garcia, a 6-7 forward from Bronx, N.Y., is the team’s leading rebounder collecting 7.7 rpg, and he’s followed by Miller with 7.2 rpg. As a team, JBU is averaging 75.5 ppg while holding opponents to 58.5 ppg.
Earlier in the season, JBU came back from a 28-36 halftime deficit to defeat RSU 68-62 in Claremore, Okla.
ABOUT THE RSU HILLCATS: RSU is coming off a 58-64 loss to Oklahoma Christian last week. The did, however, manage to knock off Northwestern Okla. State 80-77 to pick up their first conference win of the year under new head coach Justin Barkley. The Hillcats currently stand at 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. Having only played in seven of their 10 contests this year, senior Deveric Taylor, a 6-2 guard from Dallas, leads the team in scoring with 19.1 ppg. Senior John Boyd, a 6-5 forward from Wagoner, Okla., is close behind with 18.6 ppg. Boyd also leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game. As a team, RSU is averaging 77.2 ppg while holding their opponents to 73.8 ppg. The Hillcats are ranked 4th in the NAIA in three pointers made per game with nine.
