Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 10, 2010) - JBU Women’s Basketball Games Preview: The Lady Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week with Rogers State (Okla.) coming into Bill George Arena for a Saturday afternoon tilt scheduled for 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE LADY GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week’s contests at 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference after picking up wins over Oklahoma Christian and Northwestern Oklahoma State last week. The wins propelled the women into the NAIA’s Top 25 with a No. 23 ranking.
Senior Ashley Taylor, a 5-10 forward from Bergman, Ark., leads JBU in scoring with 15.9 ppg, followed by senior Katie Mangels, a 5-9 guard from Independence, Mo., with 12.2 ppg. Taylor also leads the team in rebounds with 8.6 rpg and is followed by 6-2 junior post Chelsea Garrison of Springdale, Ark. with 5.7 rpg. As a team, JBU is averaging 66.7 ppg while holding their opponents to 57.3 ppg. The team also 9th nationally in three point field goal percentage with 39.4 percent and 8th in three point field goals made per game with 8.0 per game.
Earlier in the season, the JBU women picked up a 68-57 come from behind victory over the Lady Hillcats after trailing 19-27 at halftime.
ABOUT THE RSU LADY HILLCATS LADY EAGLES: RSU is coming off an 88-43 win on Thursday night over Ecclesia College out of Springdale, Ark. Prior to that victory, the Lady Hillcats defeated Oklahoma Christian 74-62 but lost 76-79 to Northwestern Okla. State. They currently stand at 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. Candice Stewart, a 6-0 senior forward from Chesapeake, Va., leads the team in scoring with 12.6 ppg followed by Cortney Crockett, a 5-7 senior guard, from Reading, Pa. Stewart also leads the team in rebounds with 7.9 per game. As a team, the Lady Hillcats average 81.3 points per game while holding their opponents to 60.2 points per game.
