Claremore, Okla. (November 23, 2010) - The JBU women’s basketball picked up their first win in conference play after winning 68-57 over Rogers State (Okla.) on Tuesday night in Claremore. With the win the ladies improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC.
Ashley Taylor posted 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles. Katie Mangels was close behind with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Chelsea Garrison and Emily Ortiz had 11 and 10 points respectively.
For RSU (4-2, 0-1) Logan Froese finished with 14 points. Cortney Crockett added 10.
After a falling behind 17-2 in the opening minutes, JBU managed to pull within eight, 19-27, before heading into the break.
JBU opened the second half on a 14-4 run and went ahead 33-31 after a three point bucket by Sierra Shipley with 13:18 left in the game.
RSU responded with a 10-5 run to go ahead 43-38 with 9:09 left, but the Lady Eagles stuck with it and reclaimed a 48-46 lead when Garrison tossed in a trey with 5:02 remaining. A pair of RSU free-throws from Froese would tie things up momentarily before JBU would run away with it down the stretch.
For the game, JBU shot 45% (23-51) from the floor including a blistering 50% (6-12) from long range. For RSU, they were held to 29% (21-72) overall and less than 10% (1-19) from three point territory. JBU also took the rebounding edge 42-40.
JBU returns to competition at home on Thursday, December 2 when they host Oklahoma Christian in SAC action at 6 p.m.
