Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 9, 2010) - The JBU women’s soccer team solidified their spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference championship match on Saturday after defeating Mid-America Christian (Okla.) 2-1 in the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon.
JBU (15-3-1) set the tone very early after Jodi Knack booted in a goal in the first minute of action off the assist from Ashley Cecil. MACU (16-3-1) wouldn’t be intimated, however, and tied it up in the 22nd minute when Julia Nimal dribbled up the left side and found Kassie Byrd slashing through the box. This was Byrd's 16th goal of the year.
In the 34th minute, JBU took the one goal lead after Ashley Cochran blasted a solo shot to the far corner that went uncontested for the 2-1 JBU lead before halftime.
In the second period, both teams came up empty offensively as JBU managed to hold on for the win.
The Lady Golden Eagles outshot the Lady Evangels 16-6 with a 6-2 shots on goal advantage.
Faith Thurman earned the win in goal for JBU after turning away one.
The ladies now look ahead to 15th-ranked Oklahoma City in the SAC championship match on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stars Field in Oklahoma City.
JBU fell to OCU earlier in the year 2-1.
