Women's basketball picked to finish eighth
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 21, 2010) — In the SAC preseason coaches’ poll released on Tuesday, the JBU women’s basketball team is expected to finish eighth this year.
Oklahoma City University picked up every possible first-place vote and is the overwhelming favorite to win the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s basketball title. Every coach rated the teams in order and could not rank their own squad. The Stars got the maximum 11 first-place votes with Wayland Baptist gaining the remaining vote.
Coach Rob Edmisson led the Stars to a 32-4 record last season and a first-place tie with Oklahoma Baptist at 21-1 in conference.
Oklahoma City finished with a perfect 121 points in the poll, followed by OBU at 103 and Lubbock Christian at 97. Wayland Baptist, Oklahoma Christian and Southern Nazarene were all tied for fourth with 80 points each.
Rogers State was seventh at 75, followed by John Brown at 45, Northwestern Oklahoma State at 42, Mid-America Christian at 28, St. Gregory’s at 22 and Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 21.
Oklahoma City won last season’s conference tournament and reached the NAIA semifinals. OBU, Oklahoma Christian and Lubbock Christian also reached the NAIA Tournament last season.
