Men's soccer dominates RSU
Claremore, Okla. (October 16, 2010) — The JBU men’s soccer team moved into sole possession of first place in the SAC standings after defeating Rogers State (Okla.) 3-0 in Claremore on Saturday night. The win moves the men to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the SAC.
The match remained scoreless throughout most of the first half until senior Gabriel Duarte tallied his eighth goal of the year in the 38th minute to give the Eagles the one goal edge. JBU continued to pressure the Hillcats and managed to score their second goal when senior Juan Iraola found the back of the net with two minutes remaining in the period.
In the second half, RSU (10-3-1, 4-2 SAC) tightened up their defense, but still found it difficult to break through and score on JBU’s defense.
However, after another hard fought half, JBU’s freshman Luke Theimer knocked in a security goal with 58 seconds left in the match for the 3-0 final. Iraola picked up the assist.
Freshman Pablo Garcia earned the shutout after stopping four Hillcats’ shots on the night.
Up next, JBU heads to Shawnee, Okla. to face the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
