Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 12, 2010) — On Tuesday afternoon, the JBU men’s soccer team faced a tough Oklahoma City opponent in SAC action. It was a dogfight from beginning to end, with neither team wanting to go home with a loss. After 110 minutes of combat, a 1-1 draw was the end result.

Senior Juan Iraola put JBU on the board after scoring in the seventh minute off the assist from fellow senior Sasha Viatrov. JBU held on to the one goal advantage heading into the second stanza.

In the second half, OCU (6-3-1, 2-1-1) threatened to score on several occasions but came up empty until Ryan Hunter followed up a miss shot and put it away for the 1-1 tie in the 60th minute.

Neither team could get a clean look at goal during the next 30 minutes and were forced to duel it out in extra periods.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Stars seemed headed for the win in the second OT when senior Alex Gang had a penalty kick attempt due to a JBU handball in the box. Gang’s kick went wide and gave JBU life to continue on.

For the remaining four minutes, both teams continued to attack but neither could convert as time expired ending the game deadlocked at one a piece.

JBU freshman Pablo Garcia picked up four keys saves in the match.

JBU now moves to 7-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the SAC. Up next, they head to Claremore, Okla. to face Rogers State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
