Cross country teams run in Bison Invitational

Shawnee, Okla. (October 10, 2010) — The JBU men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Oklahoma Baptist Bison Invitational on Saturday. The men finished ninth out of 10 teams and the women finished seventh out of 13.

On the men’s side, Pittsburgh State (Kan.) claimed first place with 23 points. The Eagles finished with 236.

For the women, Melissa Peden led Pittsburgh State to a first place finish with 15 points. The Lady Eagles tallied 174.

Individually for JBU, sophomore Kyle Schmidt led the way for the men and finished 56th out of 102 after running the 8K (4.97 miles) in 28:16. For the ladies, freshman Valerie Kliewer finished first for JBU and 22nd out of 91 overall with a time of 20:14 in the 5K (3.1 miles).

Both teams return to completion on Saturday, October 16 when they compete in the Chili Pepper event in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
