Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 31, 2010) - John Brown University welcomes author and speaker Dr. John M. Perkins to chapel on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. Perkin’s deep roots in the civil rights movement along with his relationship with Christ led him to become the founder and president of the John M. Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation and Development.
The foundation was started in 1983 in hopes of advancing the principles of Christian community development and racial reconciliation throughout the world by focusing on the education and discipleship of youth. The foundation provides education, encouragement, development, training, and helps improve the living conditions of underprivileged people.
In 2008 and 2010 JBU partnered with the foundation for mission trips in Jackson, Miss. Students participated in community development service projects, while learning more about the civil rights movement firsthand.
