Men's Soccer adds two more
Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 30, 2010) — Giovanni Gomez of Dallas and Dayton Rodrigues of Tulsa, Okla. have both committed to play men’s soccer for John Brown University in the fall.
Gomez, who is a member of the US Soccer Development Academy, played for FC Dallas Juniors Under-18 team in 2009. During that time, he helped his squad place sixth at the U.S. Nationals and second in the Under-17 SUM Cup, the qualifying tournament for the 2010 Dallas Cup.
Gomez was also a member of the Olympic Development Program as a part of the North Texas State Team from 2006-2008. In 2008, he helped his team win first place in the Region III O.D.P Championship and was also a starting defender in the O.D.P. Nationals.
He has also been an honor student from 2005 to the present.
Rodrigues will come in as a junior after starting two years at Cowley Junior College (Kan.). During the 2009 season, he was named co-captain while starting in 15 games at the outside midfield and forward positions. He recorded four assists on the year. In 2008, Rodrigues started in 12 games recording three goals and six assists while playing the outside midfield and forward positions.
With these two additions, the men’s soccer team will add nine new players to next season’s roster.
“The idea with this recruiting class is that we wanted to bring in competitors and guys who were also good fit for the university,” said head coach John Miglarese. “Last year we made a big step amidst a lot of challenges, but anything less than winning a conference championship next year, we’ll be disappointed.”
