Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 29, 2010) - Head men’s soccer coach John Miglarese today announced the names of seven recruits that have signed letters of intent to play soccer for JBU next school year.
Goalkeeper Pablo Garcia of Guadalajara, Mexico, midfielder Ryan Piper of Tulsa, Okla., central midfielder Bobby Behrens of Sand Springs, Okla., midfielder/defender Luke Theimer of Omaha, Neb., forward Brandon Sikes of Fayetteville, Ark., forward Bryan Garcia of Houston, and defender Andre Sandiford Williams of Barbados will all be Golden Eagles in the fall of 2010.
“The coaching staff has worked extremely hard in securing a top notch freshmen class for the 2010 season,” said Miglarese. “We feel we have addressed some critical needs with these signings which will only make us more of a threat in the SAC next year.”
Pablo Garcia, who played for Atlas Youth Academy from 2004-2007, had three call-ups to the U-17 Mexican National Team, and in 2008-2009, Garcia played for Vaqueros de Ixtlan.
Piper, who was a three time All-Conference selection, helped guide his team to three state titles. During this time, he also earned Oklahoma All-State honors. Piper is also a member of Westside Alliance Soccer Club (WSA), who won the 2009-2010 Premier League and were 2009 State Finalists, as well as being a member of the Oklahoma Olympic Development Program (ODP). Piper has also been on the honor roll since his freshman year.
Behrens, who is also a member of WSA, has captained the club team for four years as well as captaining his high school squad for two years. He is also a member of the Oklahoma ODP and has participated in regional camp three times. Behrens has also been on the honor roll for the past three years.
Theimer captained his club team to three state titles from 2006-2008 and also helped guide his high school team to a state championship in 2008. He was an All-State Honorable Mention in 2008 and 2009. Theimer is also an honor roll student.
Sikes was named to the Arkansas Class 7A All-State Team in 2009, and in 2007, he made the All-State Tournament Team. He is currently the team captain for the Arkansas Comets Club Team as well as his high school team. Sikes is an AP Scholar-Athlete and is also a member of the National Spanish Honors Society.
Bryan Garcia has been a member of the Texas Rush of the United States Soccer Federation Academy System for several years. In 2009 and 2010, Garcia helped the Rush finish fourth in the region. In 2008, he was named District “Newcomer of the Year” as well as being named to the All-District Team in 2009.
Sandiford-Williams, a member of the Pro-Shottas Soccer School, has been a member of the both the U-17 and U-20 Barbadian Men’s Soccer National Teams.
Miglarese concluded that he is excited about the signees and expects them to add to the team chemistry, classroom, and the JBU community as a whole.
“It is our goal to attract strong students and dynamic young men who are also talented soccer players by offering an incredible college soccer experience and the opportunity to play for a distinctively Christian team,” said Miglarese. “We feel that we have accomplished this so far and we hope to add one or two more signings in the coming weeks.”
