Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 23, 2010) - The Lady Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week beginning with Oklahoma Christian on the road on Thursday at 6 p.m., and then they return home to close out the regular season on Saturday against Northwestern Okla. State at 4 p.m.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: The Golden Eagles put themselves back in the hunt for the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament after knocking off two ranked opponents last week. In their first game last Thursday, they shut down No. 20 Lubbock Christian (Texas) 65-63, and then they returned on Saturday to defeat No. 25 Wayland Baptist (Texas) 73-69 in overtime on Saturday. Junior Ashley Taylor earned SAC Player of the Week honors for her play in both games. She averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while setting a single-game record with 19 made free throws in the win over WBU. As a team, the Eagles also set a new team single-game record with 37 made free throws in the same game. JBU is currently 10-18 overall and 6-14 in the SAC. They are tied for ninth in the conference standings with Northwestern Okla. State, which could potentially set up a do or die game for both teams this upcoming Saturday if the team in eighth position, Mid-America Christian (Okla.), falls off this week. JBU lost to both NWOSU and OC earlier in the year 64-70 and 50-56 respectively.
ABOUT THE OC EAGLES: The Lady Eagles went 1-3 last week after splitting against St. Gregory’s (Okla.) and losing to No. 4 Oklahoma Baptist. Now 17-7 overall and 10-10 in the SAC, OC is tied for sixth in the conference standings and continues to receive votes in the national poll. Brittney Kennedy, a 6-2 senior post from Sapulpa, Okla., leads the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game, while 6-1 freshman forward Lindsey McCown averages 5.9 rebounds per game to lead in that category As a team, the Lady Eagles average 68.32 ppg while holding their opponents to 59.21 ppg.
ABOUT THE NWOSU RANGERS: The Lady Rangers went 1-2 last week with a win over St. Gregory’s (Okla.) and losses to No. 4 Oklahoma Baptist. They are 12-16 overall and have an identical 6-14 conference record with JBU. Audrey Richmond, a 6-1 freshman post from Cherokee, Okla., leads the team with 11.25 ppg, while Keindra Scott, a 6-2 senior post from Houston, Texas, leads with 6.8 rebounds per game. As a team, NWOSU averages 62.8 ppg while giving up 68.6 ppg to their opponents. Nationally, they rank 10th overall in total offensive team rebounds (1176) and 15th in total rebounds per game (42). They Lady Rangers are also fighting to secure that eighth and final spot to the SAC tournament next week.
