Plainview, Texas (January 29, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team lost 68-59 to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday afternoon in Plainview. The men fall to 14-7 overall and 6-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with the loss.

Senior Davaughn Jackson led the Golden Eagles with 20 points and nine rebounds. Junior Sam Bartlett added 13 points and six boards.

Rishi Kakad led WBU (8-10, 4-9) with 22 points, while Jason Griffin put in 13.

The Golden Eagles were behind by five, 35-30 at halftime, and allowed WBU to go on a 9-2 run to open the second period to fall behind 44-32.

JBU wasn’t done though. With 9:48 left in the game, Barlett capped off a 16-8 JBU run to make it a two point game, 50-48. But Griffin answered on the other end to push the WBU lead back to four as they continued to trade baskets as time ticked away.

With 1:43 left, Griffin landed the final blow after burying a three pointer to make it a nine point game, 66-57. JBU tried to find one final run, but WBU proved to be too much as they held on for the win.

JBU shot 45% for the game but allowed the Pioneers to shoot 52% including 44% from three-point territory. JBU outrebounded WBU 28-20. The turnover ratio was 15-11 in favor of WBU.

JBU returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they face Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 3 p.m. in SAC action.
