KLRC Partners with Compassion International to Help Haiti
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 27, 2010) — In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, local radio station 101.1 KLRC is joining stations around the country to partner with Compassion International to bring ongoing relief to the victims.
“Like so many of our listeners, our hearts are broken for the people of Haiti,” said Sean Sawatzky, KLRC general manager. “The destruction and loss of so many lives requires us to respond in a way that shows hope and compassion to these special people. It’s a privilege for us to partner with Compassion International and radio stations nationwide to provide help and hope to Haiti.”
Help Haiti with Compassion is a nationwide effort by broadcasters to mobilize the community on behalf of the victims of the earthquake.
Compassion International is uniquely positioned to assess and meet the needs of its sponsored children and families quickly. The organization works through 230 local churches to meet the needs of that church’s neighbors and these church partners are respected aid workers in their communities. This church-based model has been in place in Haiti for more than 40 years which means that funds donated to Compassion’s recovery efforts can be strategically applied to areas of need within a few days.
Listeners are encouraged to tune in to KLRC on Feb. 1 for more information about how to get involved in Compassion International’s relief efforts.
Donations can also be made at www.KLRC.com, by calling (800) 336-7676, or by texting ‘disaster’ to 90999 in order to donate $10 through one’s cell phone bill.
