Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 18, 2010) - The Lady Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week beginning with Science & Arts of Oklahoma at home on Thursday at 6 p.m. The team returns home again on Saturday to face Southern Nazarene (Okla.) also at 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE LADY GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week’s contests at 7-11 overall and 3-7 in the SAC. Ashley Taylor, a 5-10 junior from Bergman, Ark. continues to lead the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game. Taylor improved her point production after averaging 23.5 points per game in last week’s contests against No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist and St. Gregory’s (Okla.).
This will be the ladies second time facing SNU and USAO this year. Earlier in the season, JBU fell 65-54 to SNU but crushed USAO 61-36.
The Lady Golden Eagles were picked to finish eighth in the SAC’s preseason coaches’ poll but are currently sitting at ninth.
ABOUT THE USAO LADY DROVERS: After getting defeated by 25 points earlier in the year from JBU, the Lady Drovers have steadily improved their play. Last week they picked up their first conference win of the year after knocking off No. 20 Southern Nazarene 67-62. However, they dropped their next two against No. 23 Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Lubbock Christian (Texas).
They are currently the bottom feeders in the SAC with a 3-14 overall record and 1-8 conference record. They are led in scoring and rebounding by 5-9 senior guard Charitie Lewis of Cushing, Okla. with 13.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
The Lady Drovers were picked 10th in the SAC preseason coaches’ poll.
ABOUT THE SNU LADY CRIMSON STORM: SNU enters this week as the 20th team in the country, but will most likely drop in the rankings after losing 2-of-3 last week to USAO and LCU. They did, however, manage to hold off No. 23 Wayland Baptist 59-56.
Lana Keith, a 5-10 senior guard from Washington, Okla., is the scoring leader at an 18.6 point per game clip. Abby Marra, a 6-1 post from Olathe, Kan., is averaging seven rebounds per game to lead in that category.
SNU is 12-6 overall and 6-4 in the SAC and are ranked fifth in the current standings. SNU was picked to finish fourth in the SAC preseason coaches’ poll.
