Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 18, 2010) - The Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week beginning with Science & Arts of Oklahoma at home on Thursday at 8 p.m. The team returns home again on Saturday to face Southern Nazarene (Okla.) also at 8 p.m.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week’s contests at 13-5 overall and 5-5 in the SAC. Davaughn Jackson, a 6-5 senior forward from Nassau, Bahamas, continues to lead the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 15.3 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.
This will be JBU’s second time facing off against both opponents this season. JBU came up empty against SNU on December 3 losing 78-55, but crushed USAO on December 5 85-65.
JBU had a 1-1 performance last week after falling to No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist, but they defeated St. Gregory’s (Okla.) 88-70. As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 79 points per game while holding opponents to 71 points per game. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish fifth in the SAC’s preseason coaches’ poll.
ABOUT THE USAO DROVERS: The Drovers had a 1-1 performance last week. They defeated Wayland Baptist (Texas) 72-64, but fell to Lubbock Christian (Texas) 69-56. They currently stand at 4-13 overall and 2-7 in the SAC. Fred Savoie, a 6-5 sophomore forward from Opelousas, La., leads the team with 16.1 points per game. Anthony Turner, a 6-6 junior forward from New Orleans leads in the rebound column with 7.7 boards per game.
Last season, the Drovers received at at-large berth to the NAIA National Tournament after turning in a runner-up performance in the SAC Conference Tournament. Coming into this year, they were ranked 10th based on the SAC coaches’ preseason poll.
ABOUT THE SNU CRIMSON STORM: SNU is currently ranked ninth in the NAIA and holds a 14-4 overall record and 9-1 SAC record. They are coming off convincing wins over both Wayland Baptist and Lubbock Christian last week. The Crimson Storm are led in scoring by 6-6 junior forward and NCAA Division I transfer Xavier Alexander of Forest Park, Okla. Alexander posts 18.3 points per game. He also leads in rebounding with 6.8 per game.
SNU is currently ranked second in the SAC with their only loss coming against Oklahoma Baptist. Coming into this year, they were ranked fourth based on the SAC coaches’ preseason poll.
