Men's basketball preview of games this week

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 11, 2010) — The Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week beginning with No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist on the road at 8 p.m. on Thursday. The team returns home on Saturday to face St. Gregory’s (Okla.) at 4 p.m. in Murray Sells.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week’s contests at 12-4 overall and 4-4 in the SAC. Davaughn Jackson, a 6-5 senior forward from Nassau, Bahamas, leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 15.88 points per game and 9.08 rebounds per game.

JBU was winless against OBU in both meetings last year falling 75-55 on Jan. 8 in Murray Sells and 91-74 on Feb. 28 in Shawnee, Okla.

JBU posted three wins against the SGU last season defeating them twice during the regular season and again during the conference tournament.

The Golden Eagles were picked to finish fifth in the SAC’s preseason coaches’ poll.

ABOUT THE OBU BISON: The Bison are coming off three wins last week over No. 14 Southern Nazarene (Okla.), Lubbock Christian (Texas) and Wayland Baptist (Texas). Led by 2nd Team NAIA All-American Nate Brumfield, the Bison hold a 15-0 record and 7-0 record in SAC play. Brumfield, a 6-4 senior forward from Rochester, N.Y. leads the team with 23.07 points per game and 7.73 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Bison average over 95 points per game while shooting 59 percent from the floor. The Bison were the SAC coaches’ preseason favorite heading into this season.

ABOUT THE SGU CAVALIERS: St. Gregory’s currently sits at 5-7 overall and 0-7 in conference play. They are coming off three losses last week against Science & Arts of Okla. Lubbock Christian, and Wayland Baptist. The Cavs are led in scoring by 6-3 freshman guard Fayzon Richey of El Reno, Okla. with 14.91 points per game.
