Alva, Okla. (January 2, 2010) - Despite holding a double-digit advantage heading into the second half, the JBU women’s basketball team gave up a 70-64 decision to Northwestern Okla. State on Saturday night at Percefull Fieldhouse in Alva. The loss drops the women to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Junior Katie Mangels finished with a team high 19 points after going 6-of-13 from the floor. Junior Ashley Taylor added 10 points and six rebounds.
NWOSU (8-5, 2-3) had three players finish in double figures led by Autumn Klugh with 19. Audrey Richmond added 14, and Claudia Vazquez finished with 11.
After holding a 39-26 halftime lead, the Lady Eagles committed numerous turnovers allowing the Lady Rangers to fight their way back into the contest. NWOSU opened the second period on a 13-4 run to close the gap.
JBU managed to push the lead back to 10, but with 3:25 left in the game, NWOSU took the lead and never relinquished it.
Overall, JBU was held to 28 percent (20-72) from the floor, while giving up 30 percent (20-67) to NWOSU.
The rebounding battle went to the Rangers 56-41, and a huge difference maker came at the charity stripe where NWOSU went 23 for 25.
JBU returns home on Monday to face off against conference foe Oklahoma Christian at 6 p.m.
