Ladies fall to Lady Cats
Springdale, Ark. (November 20, 2009) — The JBU women’s basketball team fell 82-72 to College of the Ozarks (Mo.) on Friday night during day one of the Ecclesia (Ark.) Classic. With the loss, the women drop to 2-3 on the year.
Ashley Taylor paced JBU with 16 points and four boards. Chelsea Garrison, Emily Ortiz, and Jessica Berlin also posted double digits with 12, 11, and 11 respectively.
Morgan Smith led all scorers with 24 points and five boards for C of O (6-1).
A poor first half performance saw JBU go down by 14, 42-28, heading into the break. After falling behind by as many as 21 points in the second half, JBU managed to fight there way back to within striking distance, 77-68, with 1:19 left in the game. After a pair of C of O free throws, a long dagger from Emily Ortiz made it 79-72 with :25 on the clock. JBU was forced to foul and send C of O to the line where they converted to seal the win.
For the game, JBU shot 44 percent (24-55) while giving up 54 percent (28-52) to C of O. JBU lost the rebounding battle 35-26. Both teams committed 20 turnovers.
The ladies will face classic host Ecclesia College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
