Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 19, 2009) - The 67th annual John Brown University Candlelight Service will ring in the Christmas season with traditional melodies, time-honored classics, and inspirational readings on Thursday, Dec. 10, Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12. The service will be held in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the JBU campus. All performances are free and open to the public. Doors will open for general seating at 6:30 p.m., and the service will begin promptly at 7 p.m. with an instrumental prelude.
This year’s service will feature selections performed by the Cathedral Choir, directed by Paul Smith, the Women’s Chorus, directed by Kate Dewey, and the Chamber Choir, directed by Donald Thames.
JBU students Madeleine Breeden and Taylor Turner will perform a duet, accompanied by Jan Helmut Wubbena and Lindsey Rogan on basso continuo. Since 1946, the Candlelight Service has helped to welcome the Christmas season for countless people from northwest Arkansas and surrounding states.
Seating is on first come, first served basis, and early arrival is encouraged. In order to preserve the worshipful atmosphere of the Candlelight Services, guests are respectfully requested to consider not bringing young children to the service and to refrain from flash photography.
