Volleyball closes out season with a win

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 9, 2009) — The JBU women’s volleyball team concluded the 2009 season with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 21-25, 26-24) home win against Mid-America Christian (Okla.) in Murray Sells on Monday night. The women finish the year at 23-7 overall and an even 7-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

The team said goodbye to seniors, Britney Kerns, Shannon Proctor, Christi Newton, and Suzie Schult. All four seniors have been instrumental in JBU’s success over the past four seasons having helped the Golden Eagles win 79 matches during the past four seasons.

For the match, junior Amber Wilson paced JBU with 12 kills followed by Newton with 11. Junior Alyssa Hanson had 27 assists and Kerns totaled 22. Hanson and Kerns also had four and three service aces respectively.

Defensively, four Golden Eagle players earned double digit digs led by Erin Didier (12), Sarah Jordan (11), Hanson (10), and Proctor (10).

For MACU (9-21, 2-12), Taryn Walker and Christiane Costa had 14 and 13 kills respectively.

With only the top five finishers from conference advancing to the SAC tournament this upcoming weekend, this was the final match for JBU as they finished in the sixth spot in the SAC standings.
