Siloam Springs, Ark (September 21, 2000) - John Brown University Lady Golden Eagles were recently recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in their 2000 Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes the nation’s highest NCAA Division I, II, and III colleges and NAIA team grade point averages for the 1999-00 season, based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
“JBU is very honored to be in the top 25 NAIA schools recognized by the WBCA. They have done a wonderful job of promoting women’s basketball and we are proud to be a Division I member of this fine organization.” said Jeff Soderquist, Lady Golden Eagles coach.
The commitment and teamwork of his student athletes are also attributes of the JBU team that make Coach Soderquist proud. “We had two NAIA All-Americans last year, Senior Tonya Fountain and Junior Martha Hancock. With the criteria of a 3.5 GPA and a specific percentage of played game time, the All-American recognition demonstrates not only athletic ability, but academic achievement as well,” said Soderquist.
The WBCA promotes women’s basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women.
JBU congratulates Coach Soderquist and the entire Lady Golden Eagles Team!
