Golden Eagles out claw Bobcats
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 2, 2009) — The John Brown University volleyball squad opened their 2009 campaign on a high note after defeating College of the Ozarks (Mo.) 3-1 on Tuesday night.
After falling behind in both openings games, JBU rallied from behind take a 2-0 lead winning 25-23 and 25-22.
Ozarks opened the third game on fire, and extended their lead before JBU made a late push. But it was too little too late as Ozarks won 25-19 closing the gap to a 2-1 JBU advantage.
In the fourth, the Golden Eagles once again played from behind. This time they managed to use a late surge to take the lead and walk away with a 25-20 win for the match.
Junior Amber Wilson led the team with 14 kills followed by freshman Erin Didier with 12. Junior Alyssa Hanson and senior Britney Kerns had 24 and 21 assists respectively.
Defensively, senior Shannon Proctor picked up 26 digs and senior Christi Newton totaled three blocks.
Up next, the women travel to Branson, Mo. to compete in the College of the Ozarks Tournament on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the women face Harris Stowe (Mo.) at 1 p.m. and William Woods (Mo.) at 5 p.m. On Saturday, they take on Bethany (Kan.) at 9 a.m. and Park (Mo.) at 1 p.m.
