Women's soccer takes second spot in SAC coaches' poll
Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 20, 2009) — The John Brown University women’s soccer team earned the second place ranking in the Sooner Athletic Conference coaches’ poll released Thursday afternoon.
Four different teams received first-place votes, extending down to the No. 6 team in the poll, but Oklahoma City was at the top of eight ballots and was the run-away winner with 97 points. The Stars won the league last season with a 9-1 record and reached the opening round of the NAIA Championships.
John Brown, Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist received the other three first-place votes.
JBU is second in the poll with 82 points, followed by Rogers State at 73, SNU with 72, Oklahoma Christian with 66, OBU with 64, Science & Arts of Oklahoma with 55, Wayland Baptist with 30, Northwestern Oklahoma State with 27, Mid-America Christian with 23 and St. Gregory’s with 16.
Last season, the top three teams in the SAC had a combined two league losses. OCU was 9-1, Southern Nazarene was 8-0-2 and John Brown was 8-1-1.
Coaches were not permitted to rank their own teams.
