Oklahoma City (February 19, 2009) — The John Brown University women’s basketball team gave up a ten-point, 61-51, decision to No. 16 Oklahoma City Lady Stars in Abe Lemons Arena on Thursday night. The loss drops JBU to 12-15 overall and 6-13 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Ashley Taylor paced JBU with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Chelsea Garrison added 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Laura Duncan, Holly Hardin, and Erika Ferrell each scored 12 points for OCU (22-5, 14-5).

JBU jumped out to a 12-4 lead with 12:34 left in the first half, but OCU responded with a 12-0 to take reclaim the lead from that point.

With 4:58 remaining in the contest, the Stars held a 16 point margin, but the Golden Eagles were able to come within five with 1:19 left in the game.

JBU was forced to foul down the stretch and send the Stars to the line where they converted to hold on for the win.

The women shot 43% on the night, but turnovers were the kryptonite as the women committed 30 while forcing only 16 from OCU.

Up next, JBU returns home to face Mid America Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
