Oklahoma City (February 7, 2009) — The John Brown University women’s basketball team snuck away with a one-point, 68-67, road win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday night in the Eagles’ Nest. With the win, JBU improves to 12-12 overall and 6-10 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Ashley Taylor paced JBU with a game-high 20 points. Chelsea Garrison and Emily Ortiz both added 12, while Micaela Cully and Kacie Larkin pitched in with nine a piece.

OC (13-11, 6-10) got 17 points from Kailin DeCamp and 16 from Brittney Kennedy.

After falling behind by 15, 45-30, at the intermission, the Lady Golden Eagles regrouped and came out with a different mindset in the second half.

Fueled by their defense, JBU quickly made it an eight point game with 15:00 remaining after a pair of buckets by Taylor and an Ortiz trey.

Several key defensive stops later, JBU found themselves down four with 8:44 left, after Ortiz drained her third three of the night to cut it to 57-53.

Another JBU bucket at the 3:53 mark from Chelsea Garrison would tie things up at 63, but OC hung tough and reclaimed a 67-65 lead after DeCamp scored with 2:14 left.

The ladies turned the ball over on the next possession, but OC got called for an offensive foul after the steal.

JBU took advantage of the mishap, and Cully knotted the game at 67 with 1:21 left.

With 35.0 seconds remaining and a chance to take the lead, OC turned the ball over giving JBU a chance for the lead.

JBU got it to Taylor who was fouled and sent to the line, but she missed the first and canned the second to put the Lady Golden eagles ahead by one.

OC had one final possession to take the lead, but came up short on a three-pointer as time expired.

For the game, JBU shot 50% (25-of-50) from the floor including 50% (9-of-18) from long distance. Defensively, the ladies held OC to 22 second half points after giving up 45 in the first half.

For OC, they hit 46% (25-of-54) of their shot attempts, but allowed the Golden Eagles to score 22 points off their 15 turnovers.

Up next, JBU stays on the road and will head to Science and Arts of Okla. to take on the Lady Drovers this upcoming Thursday at 6 p.m.
