Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 8, 2009) - The Lady Golden Eagles couldn’t overcome the NAIA’s 14th ranked Lady Bison of Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday night finishing up on the short end of a 71-59 final.
For JBU (8-7, 2-5), sophomore forward Ashley Taylor (Bergman, Ark.) finished with 16 points and seven rebounds followed by Micaela Cully (Mountain Home, Ark.) with 13.
Natasha Hogg carried OBU (12-2, 5-1) with 20 points and six rebounds. Taujhnae Travis added 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Golden Eagles looked like they were heading into the break with the lead, but a buzzer beating three by OBU’s Ashley Harrell gave the Lady Bison a 37-35 lead before halftime
In the second half, JBU got off to a slow start and allowed OBU to open the half on 19-6 run to put themselves ahead 56-41. JBU fought back and came within seven, 57-64, with 4:16 left, but OBU was too much to handle down the stretch as they held on for the 12 point win.
JBU shot 23-of-53 (43.4 percent) for the game including 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) from three. The ladies grabbed 26 boards on the night and committed 25 turnovers while dishing out 14 assists as a team.
OBU hit 29-of-56 (51.8 percent) of their shot attempts. They grabbed 38 rebounds, committed 27 turnovers, and dished out 13 assists as a team.
JBU returns to action when they travel to Shawnee, Okla. to take on St. Gregory’s on Saturday at 6 pm.
