Men Outgun No. 10 Eagles
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 3, 2009) — Junior Davaughn Jackson (Nassau, Bahamas) recorded his fifth double-double of the year after scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 boards to help JBU pull off the 74-70 upset win over the NAIA’s tenth ranked Eagles of Oklahoma Christian in front of the home crowd on Saturday night.
Jackson went 6-of-10 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to lead all JBU players. Two other players reached double digits for the Golden Eagles. Senior Cody Page (Keller, Texas) and freshman Abel Galliguez (Sugarland, Texas) both added 13 points after combining for six treys.
For Oklahoma Christian, Jeff Crocker had a game high 19 points followed by Jason Taylor with 16 points and eight rebounds.
With 10:37 left in the second half, JBU (10-3, 3-2) found themselves down by three, 48-51, after OC (10-2, 3-1) scored at the free-throw line.
Over the course of the next five minutes, the Golden Eagles went on a 17-9 run sparked by Jackson’s three-point play at the 10:17 mark. And with 4:50 left in the game JBU found themselves ahead by five, 65-60.
With 3:59 left, Crocker helped OC pull with two, 63-65, after draining a three, but a field goal from Page with 2:12 left gave JBU the four point cushion.
With a minute remaining, OC made their final push and cut it within one point, 66-67, after Crocker converted a three point play, but the Golden Eagles held tough down the stretch connecting from the charity stripe to hand OC their second lost of the year and only the first in Sooner Athletic Conference action.
For the game, JBU went 24-of-58 (41.4 percent), while allowing OC to knock down 50 percent (27-of-54) of their attempts. A huge difference maker came in the rebounding column where JBU dominated grabbing 42 boards to 26 from OC. Twenty-two rebounds came on the offensive end.
JBU also forced OC into committing 16 turnovers while only committing 14 for the game.
