Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 25, 2008) - The JBU women's basketball team used a strong first half to take down Rogers State (Okla.), 68-50, on Tuesday night in Claremore. The win moves the women to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Led by junior Micaela Cully, JBU scored the first 12 points of the game and built a 27 point lead in the closing minutes of the first half. Cully tallied 11 of her 16 points before halftime.
JBU shot 53 percent, hit five 3-pointers and outrebounded the Hillcats 25-10 in the first frame. RSU made only seven field goals and was held to 28 percent shooting in the opening stanza.
RSU (4-3, 0-1) charged back in the second half cutting the deficit to 11 in the first ten minutes. But JBU was able to stretch the lead back to 21 with under five minutes remaining.
Ashley Taylor also had a big night for JBU, scoring 15 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Tasha Parker was the only RSU player to finish in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Hillcats forced JBU into 25 turnovers but were unable to capitalize due to their shooting woes. The Cats finished the night just 18-of-55 from the field for 33 percent.
Up next, JBU faces Wayland Baptist (Texas) at home next week Thursday in SAC action. Game time is 6 p.m.
