Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 1, 2008) - The John Brown University men’s basketball team opened the 2008-09 season with a 96-64 win over Hillsdale Freewill Baptist (Okla.) during the annual Toilet Paper Game on Saturday night.
Several players reached double digits for JBU. Cody Page finished with 16 points to lead JBU in the first game of the season after going 3-6 from three point land. Davaughn Jackson finished with 14 points and seven boards, and freshman point guard Thomas Galliguez went 4-6 from the floor to give him 12 points to go along with five assists.
Brody Clark paced Hillsdale with 15.
As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 54% from the floor including 10-20 from downtown, while holding Hillsdale to 33% field goal percentage.
Hillsdale took the rebounding edge 38-37. But JBU managed to force 22 turnovers while only committing 14.
“It felt good to get a game under our belt and come away with the win,” said head coach Clark Sheehy. “We had great fan support tonight, and now it’s time to get ready for the next one.”
Up next, the Golden Eagles return home to face Bacone (Okla.) on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
