Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 9, 2008) - The John Brown University women’s volleyball team looked impressive on Thursday night as they shot down the Stars of Oklahoma City 3-0.
JBU (12-8, 4-2) got off to a hot start in game one and never trailed to take the 25-18 win. In game two, both teams played evenly exchanging the lead six times before JBU was able to close it out 25-22.
In the third, OCU (25-6, 3-3), went on a mission and took a commanding 19-13 lead. Then the tables turned as JBU went on a 12-1 run to close out the match with a 25-20 win.
“It was an incredible comeback,” said Robyn Daugherty. “It was pretty exciting to close the match with that kind of momentum. The girls never quit and kept fighting point for point.”
Offensively, sophomore Kirsten Lee and senior Laurae Marty totaled nine kills each, while sophomore Amber Wilson and junior Christi Newton each got seven. Sophomore Alyssa Hanson earned 15 assists and junior Britney Kerns had 14.
Defensively, junior Shannon Proctor picked up 14 digs, while senior Aubrey Junker and Kerns each had six.
Proctor also had three service aces.
Up next, the women face Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. this homecoming Saturday. Earlier in the year, the women defeated TWU 3-1.
