Oklahoma City, Okla. (October 3, 2008) - Both John Brown University soccer squads were forced into overtime SAC action on Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Christian, and while the men ended in a 1-1 tie, the women were able to come out on top 1-0.
After being deadlocked for 97 minutes, JBU’s Camille Malkiewicz found an opening in the box during the first overtime period after she and beat OC’s keeper to net the golden goal for the Lady Golden Eagles.
Megan Rouse earned the shutout after registering five saves. JBU advances to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in conference, while OC falls to 4-4-1 and 0-1 in SAC. Up next, JBU returns home to face Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday at 4 p.m. In the men’s game, it looked like a replay of JBU’s game against Science and Arts of Okla. after the Golden Eagles allowed OC to score late in the 88th minute for a 1-0 lead. Both teams had scoring opportunities in the overtime periods but came up blank as the game ended in a tie. Jasso led JBU with six shots (three on goal), while OC’s Trey Bokin attempted five shots, including four on goal. As a team, JBU outshot OC 19-16. Keeper Spencer Watson had nine saves while OC’s Bryan Cochrum had 10. JBU now sits at 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the SAC wile OC moved to 3-3-3 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.
