Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 18, 2008) - The John Brown University men’s golf team opened the new season on a positive note as they finished sixth out of eleven teams during the two-day Central Christian Invitational.
On day one, the six man team shot 326 and ended day two at 318 for a total of 644.
Individually, freshman Matt Brooker of Siloam Springs led the way for JBU with a total of 149. Brooker finished sixth overall.
Freshman West Loveland of Rogers and sophomore Jeff Hobble of Apex, N.C. tied at 157 while junior Joshua Hammett of Phenix City, Ala. and sophomore Chase Orband of Rogers rounded out the group shooting 185 and 191 respectively.
Head Coach Brian Thomas said that he is proud of the way his team performed and is looking forward to the rest of the season.
“Finishing sixth out of eleven teams isn’t bad for our first tournament,” said Thomas. “And to have a player finish sixth overall says a lot about this team and how hard they’ve worked.”
Bethel College finished in the top spot shooting 598 followed by Mid America Christian with a 612.
Up next, the golfers look ahead to the two-day Oklahoma City Tournament beginning on Monday, Oct. 6.
