Siloam Springs, Ark. (June 9, 2008) — The partnership between John Brown University and DaySpring has been long-standing. Over the years DaySpring has actively supported JBU in various ways and has mutually benefitted by employing several JBU graduates and using current students as interns. The latest partnership between JBU and DaySpring has come in the way of an endowed scholarship. DaySpring has given the financial resources to fund a scholarship that will be awarded each year to student’s who are interested in fields of study related to the DaySpring Cards organization. The $50,000 endowed scholarship will award approximately $2,500 per year. To be eligible for the scholarship the students must be enrolled as majors in the Visual Arts department or the Business department. Applicants must fill out an application, write an essay on the integration of faith and work in the marketplace, and if they are an art student, include a digital portfolio. “DaySpring is pleased to continue our partnership with JBU on this endowed scholarship,” said James Barnett, President of DaySpring Cards. “We look forward to having one of the scholarship recipients intern with us this summer.” A committee made up of representatives from DaySpring, the JBU Business Department, the JBU Art Department, and the JBU University Advancement Scholarship Office met and reviewed the applications. After reviewing the fifteen applicants the decision was made to divide the scholarship funds between two students this year, one studying business and one studying art. The first two recipients of this scholarship not only come from two different majors, but also from two different parts of the world. Emily Caneday is a junior from Taylors Falls, Minn. and is majoring in graphic design. She was selected by DaySpring to also participate in their summer internship program. Belaid Lekadir is a senior from North Africa and is majoring in management and international business.
