Ladies Outsoared by Flying Queens
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 5, 2008) — Although John Brown claimed a two-point halftime lead, 35-33, Wayland Baptist wasn’t ready to lay down on the afternoon and fought back to defeat JBU 70-58.
JBU struggled taking care of the ball in the second half committing 13 turnovers. And with 9:51 remaining in the game the ladies found themselves down 12 points and couldn’t close the gap as Wayland Baptist held on for the win.
The win gives Wayland Baptist (6-7, 1-4) their first conference win of the year. John Brown drops to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the SAC.
Leading scorer for JBU was Micaela Cully with 15 points and five rebounds. Ashley Taylor added 14.
Anastasia Okolo had a huge day for Wayland Baptist with 23 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Vanita Wright also chipped in with 12 points and 14 caroms.
For the game, JBU committed 21 turnovers while WBU only had 11. JBU shot 46% (21-46) and WBU shot 41% (22-54). The rebounding edge went to John Brown, 21-19.
