Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 6, 2007) - It was another thriller in women’s basketball action on Thursday night. But JBU couldn’t overcome a late Rogers State (Okla.) push and fell 65-68 in Murray Sells Gymnasium. The loss drops JBU to 5-5 overall, 1-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. RSU improves to 5-4, 2-1.
With under a minute remaining Hayley KnifeChief gave RSU the 66-65 lead after Micaela Cully had the ball stolen by Yoda Woods. On the next possession, Cully had a chance to give JBU the lead, but her three-point attempt bobbled out with 21 seconds left in the game. RSU grabbed the rebound and JBU was forced to foul and send KnifeChief to the line. KnifeChief converted both attempts to secure the win for Rogers State.
Leading scorers for JBU was Emily Ortiz with 15 points, while Cully picked up 14. KnifeChief and Tasha Parker paced RSU with 15 apiece.
As a team, JBU shot 45% from the floor but continued to struggle from beyond the arc only nailing 33% of their attempts. RSU, however, hit 52% of their shots including 50% from long range. Both teams did equally well on the boards with RSU winning 27-26.
