‘Knowing Your Adolescent’ Free Seminar

Siloam Springs, Ark (February 21, 2000) — A LifeSolutions Seminar entitled "Is Caring enough?: Knowing Your Adolescent" will meet February 29, 6:30 p.m. at the Elm Springs Elementary School cafeteria in Bentonville.

"One of the major concerns that brings families into counseling is how to deal with adolescents," said Dr. Gary Oliver, Executive Director of the Center for Marriage and Family Studies at John Brown University. " In light of the alarming suicide rate and violence in schools like Columbine High School, many parents want to know how they can better understand and parent their adolescent child," he said.

The seminar will address such subjects as how to interact with adolescents in their own world and how to instill the values that will help adolescents become responsible and productive adults. Participants will also learn about the major influences on today’s adolescents.

Dr. Oliver notes that, "The upcoming LifeSolutions seminar, ‘Is Caring Enough? Knowing Your Adolescent’ is designed to help parents understand the key features of adolescence; the dangers of adolescence including bullying, violence towards others and suicide; and the key emotions of adolescence including depression and anger."

The seminar will be presented by the professional staff of The Center for Marriage and Family Studies and PeopleCare Clinics at John Brown University. "Is Caring Enough?: Knowing Your Adolescent" is a free seminar and is open to the community. For more information, call 524-7105.
