Volleyball Eliminated from SAC Tourney
Plainview, Texas (November 9, 2007) — John Brown women’s volleyball fell 3-2 to the Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Friday morning in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Wayland Baptist (Texas).
Playing as the five seed, John Brown dropped the first two games (27-30, 26-30) to the number four seed, SNU, before pushing the match to a fifth game. After winning games three and four (30-28, 30-23), JBU dropped the fifth by a score of 10-15.
Individually, several JBU athletes had strong performances in the match. Freshman Amber Wilson led the way with 21 kills. Laurae Marty picked up 15 kills and three blocks. And sophomore Christi Newton had an all-around match with 13 kills, five aces, and seven blocks. Alyssa Hanson paced the squad with 29 assists, while Aubrey Junker carried the defense with 28 digs.
John Brown drops to 14-19 overall and awaits the release of the Region VI Tournament bracket which will take place next weekend at Lubbock Christian (Texas).
