Women's Soccer Eliminated from SAC Tourney
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 29, 2007) — Their winning streak came to an end today as the No. 1 seeded John Brown Lady Golden Eagles fell 4-2 to the No. 7 seed Oklahoma Christian in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament semi-finals at home. Oklahoma Christian (8-9-2, 3-5-1) opened the match with an early goal at the 3:53 mark when Stephanie Duncan scored off the assist from Kacie Hoppe. John Brown (14-5, 9-0) evened things up at 26:18 when Jodi Knack found Sarah Kidd on the breakaway for the equalizer. Duncan, however, regained the lead for OC after scoring unassisted in the 32nd minute. OC would take the 2-1 lead into halftime. Six minutes into the second half, Knack found Gerdin on the breakaway. She forced the keeper to come out and went one-on-one before getting by the keeper for the goal. Then in the 63rd minute, John Brown broke down on defense when they deflected a cross to Taryn Caylor. Caylor took several dribbles deeper in the box before blasting a shot pass Natalie Wall for the 3-2 lead. Then at the 89:10 mark, Emma Cole headed in the final goal of the day after receiving a cross pass from Duncan. The loss eliminates John Brown from SAC Tournament play. But JBU now takes their No. 1 seed to the regional tournament which begins on Nov. 5th in Oklahoma City. OC moves on the the tournament championship to face Rogers State (Okla.) on Wednesday. “We came out not ready to do battle," said head coach Joe Thoma. “But now we have to get ready for Regionals, which we have to win in order to advance to the national tournament.” The regional tournament scheduled will be released later this week.
