Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Grand View Tourney

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 13, 2007) — John Brown University women’s volleyball finished day two of the Grand View (Iowa) Tournament 1-1 after defeating Mayville State (N.D.) 3-0 (30-24, 30-13, 30-21) and falling 0-3 (16-30, 28-30, 29-31) to Jamestown (N.D.) on Saturday. In their first match, JBU made quick work of Mayville State after setting the tempo early on. Individually, Amber Wilson led in the kill’s category with 12. And Christi Newton followed up with 11 kills and five blocks while Laurae Marty was hot on her heels with 10 kills and three blocks. Both Britney Kerns and Alyssa Hanson had 21 assists each. Aubrey Junker continued to show her versatility and defensive prowess by picking up 12 digs. Shannon Proctor also contributed with three service aces. For their second match, John Brown faced a Jamestown team that split on day one of the tournament. Jamestown got off to a hot start in the first game and put things away after three before JBU started to make a run. Once again, Wilson led the team with 14 kills. Kirsten Lee also pitched in with 10 kills and two blocks. Kerns totaled 20 assists, and Proctor led the defensive with 14 digs while Newton collected five blocks. John Brown (12-12, 4-2) returns home this Tuesday to face St. Gregory's (Okla.) at 7 p.m.
